QUT Kelvin Grove B Block – Truss Repairs and Level 3 Fitout (Stage 4)

This project comprised roof truss repairs to two wings of B Block on Levels 3 and 5, and the fitout of four lecture spaces on Level 3 at QUT’s Kelvin Grove campus. The refurbishment involved a full internal strip-out of the classrooms, repair and certification of the fire-rated ceiling, extensive Autex acoustic panels to the ceiling, painting and new carpet floor finishes throughout. A full strip-out and upgrade of services including AV, electrical, data and dry fire was also undertaken.

The project presented the challenge of working within a live university environment while students occupied nearby classrooms and sat exams. Noise mitigation was essential during university hours, and during exam periods the team transitioned predominantly to out-of-hours work to meet the university’s requirements without delaying the refurbishment program.
