Description

A major staged internal and external refurbishment of QUT’s B Block at Kelvin Grove, including the Level 5 office fitout, structural remediation of the existing timber roof trusses, roof repairs, façade rectification, ceiling renewals to the main public corridors and full replacement of external tiling to circulation areas. Associated electrical, mechanical and fire services were modified and upgraded.

The works were undertaken within a fully operational university building with minimal laydown space and high pedestrian volumes. Multiple small compounds on different levels served specific functions such as tile storage, waste removal and preparation areas, and were located to avoid conflict with pedestrian routes and university operations.

With teaching continuing throughout, pedestrian and vehicle access routes were maintained at all times, with temporary fencing, exclusion zones and visual screening deployed in line with the program. Materials were moved by trolley and passenger lift outside peak hours, and long lengths were lifted via a custom hoist through an existing Level 5 window to avoid interfering with building operations.
