Parliament House Balcony Balustrading
Design and installation of a glass balustrade in front of the heritage balustrade on the George Street balcony of Parliament House.
Description
This project comprised the design and installation of a glass balustrade and stainless-steel handrail in front of the existing heritage balustrade on the George Street elevation of the Parliament House balcony. The works required conformance with the Heritage Exemption Certificate, the structural brief and the Building Certifier’s assessment.
The works were completed within a high-profile building that remained operational throughout the project. All materials had to be transported through the interior of a highly ornate, heritage-listed building, requiring a high level of temporary protection and management of the travel path. Major deliveries were coordinated with off-peak times and non-sitting days so the building remained fully operational for all user groups.
