Description

Completed in October 2016, this project comprised the upgrade of a number of buildings on the Sherwood Neighbourhood Centre property including the Offices, Main Hall, Emergency Accommodation, Thrift Shop and Pottery Club Shed to meet the National Construction Code and the access and mobility requirements of AS1428.1.

The key elements of the project included refurbishment of the Neighbourhood Centre staff offices; re-building the Main Hall amenities to meet AS1428.1 requirements for male and female ambulant toilets and accessible unisex toilets, during a two week school holiday window; upgrade of an emergency accommodation unit to meet 1428.1 including accessible kitchen, bathroom, laundry and general upgrade of the unit; construction of AS1428.1 ramps to access the various buildings around the facility. Other compliance works undertaken included provision of new emergency lighting and smoke detection; upgrading access and egress door hardware; widening doorways; replacement of floor coverings; structural repairs and alterations; construction of new stairs and concrete pathways around the facility.

The works were successfully undertaken whilst the Main Hall remained in operation with minimal disruption to the various community user groups.
