Description

Design and construct refurbishment of three amenities blocks at Ipswich State High School, including a major in-ground drainage reconfiguration for 34 new pans, an accessible bathroom, a changing room and a facilities office. Works incorporated structural modifications, new framing, graded epoxy flooring, full-height partitions, painting, screens and gates, together with the removal of asbestos-containing wall linings.

When the ground slab was removed for the new drainage, previously unidentified asbestos contamination was discovered in the underlying subgrade. Blackwood Projects coordinated the occupational hygiene assessment, isolation, removal and disposal of the contaminated material, clearance and reconstruction of the subgrade.

The works were carefully staged within the operational school, with disruptive activities undertaken outside normal school hours.
