Description
Blackwood Projects delivered the full demolition and reconstruction of the Fern Tree Gully Spiral Approach Deck within Roma Street Parklands, a high-profile public environment with significant environmental and access constraints. The works involved staged removal and replacement of all timber decking, joists, bearers, balustrade posts and stainless steel wire balustrading, while maintaining the integrity of the existing curved deck geometry and supporting steel substructure.
The project required a highly coordinated methodology, including staged demolition and reconstruction across four zones, installation of complex cantilevered scaffold systems within a vegetated and sloping site, and extensive off-site timber processing to achieve the required curved deck profile.
Works were undertaken within an active parkland setting, requiring careful pedestrian management, material handling via constrained access routes, and close coordination with City Parklands Services and horticultural stakeholders to protect surrounding vegetation and waterways.
