Description

Blackwood Projects delivered the staged renewal of the Fern Tree Gully footbridge decking within Roma Street Parklands, including replacement of timber decking, joists and bearers. The works were undertaken by our in-house carpentry team and delivered a high-quality outcome, extending the service life of the structure and rejuvenating the boardwalk for continued public use.

A key feature of this project was a QuikDeck modular suspended scaffolding system, which provided an innovative solution for access, containment and public protection. Suspended beneath the bridge structure, the system created a fully decked working platform with integrated edge protection, enabling safe and efficient construction while eliminating the risk of falling debris impacting the public or the environment below. This approach avoided the need for ground-based scaffold, minimising disturbance to the parklands and significantly improving overall safety outcomes.

The project was delivered within a constrained, high-traffic public environment, requiring detailed planning, multiple staging compounds and careful coordination of all material movements through active pedestrian areas.
